Ghetto Ghille |
|
If you don't have time to build a full out ghille suit or just don't want to pay 100+ bucks for a premade one then my reccomendation is what I call a ghetto ghille. Any old camo pants, shorts, or shirts that are old and riped can still be used. Cut the material into stips and sections and you can use them as 'brush'. What I did was take an old Navy camo coat that I got at a second hand store for $10 then hand sewed the stips and sections of material onto the back, arms, and hood of the coat. Layering is not all than important with this kind of ghille, you just want to be sure you have everything nicely distributed so it covers the coat well. If you have an old brown or green shirt you can throw a few strips of that into th mix as well to help further break up the colors.
You can do this same thing with a mask as well. The easiest way I have found of securing the fabric is to poke two small holes in your mask about 1/4 to 1/2 inch apart then to run heavy-duty srting through these holes then tie them through the fabric strips. Try to do the same layout and color scheme as the coat so everything flowes together. Also be sure that if you have any fabric above your lense it's not going to fall down in front and block your vision.
This system isn't as effective as a full ghille suit, but it still does a much better job at concealing you than ordinary camo and is much more cost effective. I'll get some pictures up soon of mine so you can see what I'm talking about.
